Thomas Gusher Jr. was a very special volunteer fire fighter and Emergency Medical Technician for the Hanover Township Fire Department and the Hanover Township Community Ambulance; more importantly, Tommy was a son, brother, and a friend. His goal was to become a paramedic.
Unfortunately, Tommy was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a cancer that originates in the lymphatic system, causing tumors to develop from lymphocytes. Tommy’s fight with this disease began before he enrolled into the LCCC paramedic program. He fought the disease and was in remission when he started schooling, sadly the cancer came back. This did not discourage him. Going above and beyond, not only did Tommy take on the time intensive paramedic program, class three times a week plus a very demanding clinical schedule, head on; he fought for his life with the same ferocity that he used to study, learning how to save lives. Due to his tenacity, Tommy completed the Paramedic program and fulfilled his goal; becoming a paramedic. Shortly after his astonishing accomplishment, the cancer returned and took Tommy from us, much too soon.
The Hanover Township Scholarship Fund was created with Tommy in our hearts and minds, establishing a scholarship for promising paramedic students who complete the course with a display of high academic achievement and demonstrate community volunteerism and humanitarianism.
To date, the Hanover Township Scholarship Fund has helped over 24 paramedics, who have displayed exceptional skills and knowledge, to offset some of the cost of their education; and we hope to help dozens more.
Your involvement in the Thomas Gusher Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament, whether by playing golf or by sponsoring a hole or gifts, helps us to keep the scholarship available for future paramedics.
For the past 24 years, we have had great success with the tournament, and we would like to thank the golfers and our gracious sponsors who have helped us tremendously in the past. This year we would like to see it develop further and are asking for your help.
If you’re a golfer, come out and join us for a great round of golf. If you are a business or just a person who doesn’t golf but would like to take part, you can assist us by becoming a hole sponsor or donating any type of gift. Any little bit helps and is greatly appreciated. We would like to thank you in advance for your generosity and helping us to keep Tommy’s dream alive.
